Winterscape

"I please myself with the graces of wintery scenery, and believe that we are as much touched by it as by the genial influences of summer."
-Ralf Waldo Emerson
"O Winter! ruler of the inverted year, . . . I crown thee king of intimate delights, Fireside enjoyments, home-born happiness, And all the comforts that the lowly roof Of undisturb’d Retirement, and the hours Of long uninterrupted evening, know."
—William Cowper
"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk
beside the fire: it is the time for home."
-Edith Sitwell

Looking through quotes about winter I noticed that most of the ones I found referred to the bleakness of winter and waiting for spring. I, however, love winter. I love the peacefulness and the stillness of winter. Everything is simplified. So I wanted to come up with a concept for decorating my fireplace mantel to celebrate the beauty of winter. I also hoped it would help with the transition from all of the glitter and sparkle of my Christmas decorations and avoid the depressing bareness and emptiness of "After Christmas". I knew I wanted a lot of white and sparkle but also wanted to incorporate shades of brown for the bare branches. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Thank you both! I love both of your blogs! Sandra, I took your advice and posted a few close up pics. I had changed a few things and needed to update the pics anyway. I haven't really done much blogging so I'm still learning. :) Thanks again!

Oh I love your mantle. I think I have the same trees that you do. The ones on the ends. Are they in the original containers? Mine are in a white little wooden kind of square one. I think they came from JoAnn's but don't remember for sure. You gave me inspiration to put them into another container.
I love your mantle.
Thanks for sharing.

Kristan~~~

I think this is the prettiest mantel I have seen in the party. It SO appeals to me. I love the browns, the birds, the natural elements of the pebbles and branches. Oh, it has stolen my heart!!! :-)

I love winter, too. Sometimes it gets to be a bit tough with one day so much like the day before, but I do love it. I really like how your mantel reflects this. Great job!!

Thanks for becoming a follower. I am wondering if you can do me a very tiny favor so we see if this works for Friday. I am in the process of getting a badge button for the meme....in the meantime, because I may not have it for Friday, I have posted my boys pic with the header Foto Fun Friday to my task bar on the left hand side. Can you see if you copy and paste it to your blog if it goes back to mine. I did link it up that way but have no idea if it will work. I know you have to go to your add gadget, then under the HTML add it....do you mind terribly doing that, then you can delete it right after. I have another blogger friend but she is out of town this week. You can also delete this message if you want!!~ Thanks in advance if you don't care to I understand I will figure it out:) Debbie
